Courageous Fire
What is the work you are representing?
The owner and social entrepreneur of Courageous Fire, LLC. and the Executive Director of Courageous Access.
How does your work contribute to the mental health support balance in the Black community in Iowa?
Courageous Fire, LLC helps contribute to that balance by increasing the safe spaces of women in crisis to go so the more centers of must and the centers of trust understand and support us, supporting ourselves, the better that balance is. Courageous Access gives the actual women permission to go get that support.
Why did you choose to say yes to this committee?
Totally a no brainer. A survivor of domestic violence always feels responsible for the things we feel that we represent that look like failures to us. The way that we feel after the situation, we blame ourselves for that. Removing that stigma, from that whole mindset, and actually extending an invitation to come and get the help that we need - if I can be part of that solution, I'm all in.
