Shy Turner
What is the work you are representing as a member of the committee?
“Hi, my name is Shy, and I am actually a college student. I got to be a part of the MIO campaign to help make it okay for mental health awareness”
How does your work contribute to the mental health support balance in the Black community in Iowa?
“So, I feel that it helps to let people know that they have a safe place to, you know, feel welcomed, not be judged, be able to say whatever they want and get it off their chest so that they can be better versions of themselves and finally feel like themselves.”
Why did you choose to say yes to this committee?
“I chose to say yes because me, myself, I actually struggled and probably still do, with my mental health seeing as I had an eating disorder pretty much all of my life. So I have been working with everyone around me, my friends and family have been helping me, to get to a point where, I can be myself again and I just feel like it’s really important to help people feel that again.”
