Double Up Food Bucks Expands to Eleven New Fareway Locations

SNAP users can now utilize the program in 94 different locations across Iowa

DES MOINES, IOWA (June 18, 2024) – The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative’s Double Up Food Bucks program has expanded its partnership with Fareway by adding eleven stores in communities across Iowa as participating locations.

The eleven new sites include two locations in Cedar Rapids, as well as Clinton, Council Bluffs, Fort Madison, Hampton, Muscatine, Newton, Red Oak, Toledo, and Vinton. Across these locations, approximately 18,628 Iowans will now have increased access to fresh produce in their community through Double Up Food Bucks.

SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) users are automatically eligible for Double Up Food Bucks. The program empowers SNAP recipients to maintain a healthy diet and to put more food on the table for themselves and their family. For every dollar spent on produce, another dollar is matched in Double Up Food Bucks, up to ten dollars per day.

“The Double Up Food Bucks program not only helps SNAP users in Iowa access more food, but healthier food,” said Iowa Healthiest State Executive Director Jami Haberl. “Increasing access to fresh produce for families and individuals in communities across the state is a crucial step towards ensuring that every Iowan can live their healthiest life.”

How Double Up Food Bucks works: A customer who spends $10 in SNAP benefits at a participating site receives an additional $10 in free Double Up Food Bucks to spend on locally grown fruits and vegetables. The program provides a 1:1 match, up to $10 per day
