Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company
After seeing an increase in spending on cancer from employees in recent years, Grinnell Mutual used their prize money to help fund their new Cancer Center of Caring Initiative. Through this initiative, Grinnell Mutual has committed to supporting employees and their families by offering benefits and fostering a culture that helps them prioritize their health and well-being. Their program has three main pillars:
Prevention
Lifestyle and behavior change help mitigate disease. Under this component Grinnell Mutual and UnityPoint Health at Work will provide increased education and programs on healthy eating, physical activity, stress management, quality sleep, social connections, and avoiding risky substances to reduce health risks.
Early Detection
Screenings are used to help with early detection before a person has any symptoms. Early detection can improve health outcomes and reduce side effects.
In 2025, Grinnell Mutual and UnityPoint Health at Work have partnered to enhance the current blood screens provided under the Well For Tomorrow premium incentive initiative. We will continue to offer Health Expos at the Grinnell Mutual Home Office in addition to expanding screening locations to include UnityPoint network labs and a nationwide lab vendor. The additional blood screens will be available to employees and spouses who are on the Grinnell Mutual Health Plan.
Support
A Cancer diagnosis is difficult and overwhelming for the patient and their loved ones. The Health Matters Health Coach is training to facilitate connecting Grinnell Mutual’s employees to specialized care navigators. These care navigators can help answer early questions and concerns that the employees may have about next steps in their care.
A related cancer support group will also begin in early 2025!
