Iowa Healthiest State Initiative Releases Annual Report Highlighting Statewide Impact

The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative, a leading well-being non-profit organization, is proud to announce the release of its annual report for 2024. The report offers comprehensive insights into the organization’s community involvement, activities, and achievements throughout the year. Through statewide efforts, the Iowa Healthiest State Initiative has at least one of its programs or events operating in all of Iowa’s 99 counties.

Key highlights of the annual reports include:

●      $578,000 worth of economic impact was created statewide by Double Up Food Bucks, a SNAP incentive program that matches purchases of fresh produce at participating stores and markets $1 to $1. The program supports both Iowans that utilize SNAP benefits, and Iowa’s local growers and farmers markets.

●      286,010 employees in 507 registered workplaces were informed of the importance of mental health care and the prevalence of mental health stigma through the Make It OK campaign.

●      3,500 educators and individuals were reached through outreach opportunities for 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count!, a nationally recognized and evidence-based prevention framework to promote healthy habits.

●      $85,000 were redeemed for fresh produce through the Iowa Produce Prescription Program, which connects food insecure patients with diet related diseases (diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular, etc.) to medical providers that write prescriptions for free fruits and vegetables, while delivering nutrition education.

“Our organization’s work to improve the physical, social, and mental health of Iowans reaches every corner of the state through our events and programs,” said Executive Director, Jami Haberl. “We are grateful for the support of our donors, partners and leadership who make our efforts to address the foundational determinants of health for all Iowans possible.”
